Using Google to advertise your business

Using Google to advertise your business- written and compiled by Paul John Gioio

In the past, using the internet to advertise your business was a fairly straight forward affair; it was a cheap means of advertising. All you needed to do was to build a website displaying your services or products and chances were that when someone searched for a product or service in your line of business, the search results would easily bring up your company but times have changed. The internet has evolved and titans of the industry dominate and control the way we search for products and services. Google is one such company. Google has come a long way to making the internet more user friendly but at what cost to us today. Today if you want to advertise your business or service on the internet you will need to look at Google’s advertising program. Previously you could build a website and there would be no more need to take advertising a step further but today things are different.

Google has setup the web and the way we search it to suit their needs. Just take a look. If you search on Google for something today, you will find that more likely than anything else that only older web pages are displayed by default, users of the search engine will have to change setting before the latest results are displayed and this default setting by Google forcers a business owner such as yourself who wishes to use the internet for advertising to only consider Google Advertising.

Google advertising works on the basis of keywords searching which means that when someone searches for a keyword (potatoes), Google will deliver search results for potatoes but Google will also display ads for potatoes both at the top of search results and on the right hand side of search results. If you are a supplier of potatoes to an open market and you want to hold one of those adverting positions on the top or side of the search result, you will need to create a Google adwords account and start your advertising campaign. Once you create your account, you then create your ads but this is where things can get costly and complicated. Let’s just say you want to advertise when someone searches for the keyword potato and you want your ad to be the first on the list. In order to do this, you will need to bid against other advertisers for the keyword potato. This is where the auction begins and unless you are the highest bidder, chances are that your ad won’t appear and even if it did somehow end up being displayed, it would be somewhere at the bottom of the list.

Apart from search results, you can also have ads for content. A typical example would be a website like 24.com, which when you visit you will see ads on almost every page. This means that where there are websites about potatoes, and these websites display Google ads, your potato ad will be displayed. This system of ads for content also works on a keyword bidding system and to display your ads you will need to bid against other advertisers. If the bidding in the field of which you do business is a very competitive and valuable keyword, then Google advertising both content and search can be a very costly expense. It would be a good idea to do some research on the subject before jumping in to join the party.

I had a client once who asked me to setup Google advertising for him because he had seen all these other companies who were being displayed. We went ahead and setup his account, chose a daily budget of R25.00 and set his bidding price to default. This meant that he would be paying as much for a click on his own ads as the other companies would be paying who were already being displayed there.  After 1 week the client had called me and told me that his ads weren’t being displayed anymore. After inspection we concluded that someone (not sure who but I think it was his competition) was clicking on his ads. This resulted in his daily budget being reached and once that happened; his ads were not displayed anymore.  Since the discovery he had decided to cancel his adwords account.

Summary:

If you are considering using an online advertising system such as Google ads consider what your advertising needs are and whether or not it is what you really need to boost your online presence. It’s important to remember that your cost per click is determined by what is currently being paid for keywords in your line of business. There are other advertising portals online such as bizcommunity which specialize in local business advertising with an extensive market reach which could be cheaper than pay per click advertising. Also it’s the more traditional approaches that work much better than newer technologies. Advertising directly in newspapers is still a proven technique to reach a target market.

Is Google in Trouble & Facing Bankruptcy?

[NEW YORK - Wednesday] – by Devon Melk. Rumors are now running amok that the 2nd most powerful website on the entire Worldwide-Web may file BANKRUPTCY, with the deadline set for this December; being the date of both discharge and dissolution in a Federal Court of Law.

This would come as a SHOCK to investors and “Googlers” alike who both profit and benefit from the use of the World’s largest and most powerful search engine which receives far in excess of 100 MILLION unique daily visitors and well over 300 million individual searches daily – making it perhaps the single most valuable public data resource as an “information bank” online the world over.

But is the rumor true or false?

The origin of the rumor occurred when some savvy Internet marketers began making statements that they had heard “insiders’ talk” that the company (now publicly traded since April 30, 2004, just over 3 years ago) may face financial disaster with the release of a “new system” that would allow advertisers to get their otherwise pay-per-click (PPC) advertising completely free.

This, of course, would naturally lead directly (like a domino- effect) to the collapse of Google’s sibling program AdSense; as its only revenue comes from the direct sales of AdWords “clicks.”

The “new system” in question and responsible for the controversy over getting AdWords pay-per-clicks free is that developed by Dr Jon Cohen of New York City, New York (now retired) who discovered a simple, yet effective means, for getting Google PPC ads without having to suffer the costs involved.

The retired New York doctor and native has a publicly disclosed net worth now in excess of $70 million [US], having generated well over $377 million in product sales from sixteen (16) separate online businesses within just nine (9) years since first venturing online in 1998 (about the same time as Google was founded).

It is estimated by company insiders and leading financial analysts that the “good doctor” (as he’s called by “all who know him”) has purportedly saved well over $93 million (some estimates suggest closer to $136 million) in otherwise paid advertising at Google and the other major players in the PPC targeted-search arena online – including Yahoo, MSN, AskJeeves, AllTheWeb.com, HotBot, AltaVista, Lycos and Netscape, just to name a few.

The “secret” became available to the general masses last April, and its very release caused such a major sweeping stir among the community of Internet-marketers, affiliate-marketers, webmasters, ecommerce

company owners and surfers alike that the site quickly rose to break the top most visited 1,000 websites on the entire planet briefly; and as can be seen here:

http://tinyurl.com/39lnjn (Alexa data on this!)

When asked if the “secret” would somehow ruin Google, Dr Cohen revealed almost cryptically that it actually would bring about just the opposite effect, and “stimulate” even more business volume for the virtual giant.

Many people were dismayed to find that Google itself is deliberately allowing the purchase of 100,000′s of PPC ads offering the secret system to the general public — which indicates to most observers that either they [Google] haven’t caught it, or they simply feel that it somehow is not a threat to their continued operation.

For anyone’s inspection factual and hard evidence supporting this can be seen by simply looking to the right-hand column when doing a search for “get google ads free” (specifically in quotation marks) at Google.com under the “Sponsored Links” section.

Or take this direct and instant SHORTCUT:

http://tinyurl.com/2ctu6j

You can also see nearly 100,000 specific results in the “organic” fields index located in the center and which occupies the bulk of the results pages.

One would think that if Google felt threatened by such a release as this earth-shaking “secret” is, they would hardly allow for either paid-ads or organic content to make the top searches regarding it.

However, evidence supports to the contrary – and this being the case now for a full six (6) months.

Mysteriously, within just two (2) hours of its initial release last April, Google itself actually did in fact ‘pause’ the parent firm’s attempts at advertising the new system using PPCs on their search engine – only, however, to release the hold after a Review Team consisting of some of Google’s top executives completed performing an in-depth investigation and made the determination to ALLOW the ads to run.

The secret system was recently revised however to include “major new content” and “more exhaustive instructions,” and is now available at its Home Site:

secure1123.freegoogle . hop . clickbank . net

The most important addition is that of a so-called “string of code” (tech-talk for some HTML) that can be added to any webpage(s) that instantly causes the elimination of the page owner’s AdWords costs right away.

Even a “live” woman spokes-representative (“Rachel”) has been added to the site, and who appears to literally walk out onto the webpage and talk to visitors and explain a bit more how the mysterious new breakthrough system works.

Since the addition of this new “live” spokes-woman has now appeared at the site, company Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mr Todd Coutrin states that “sales for the system have skyrocketed above 2,430% suddenly and with no limit in sight.”

Coutrin continues: “With the newest revision now in place, plus all the additions added, affiliates for the new system can expect to earn even more than ever before!” (Note: Affiliates make up the bulk of the firm’s sales generation.)

The refund rate for the new revised version of the secret (named V5.1) has dropped to less than half of what it was before the newer version’s release; meaning it’s now even more readily-received and put to use than ever before (perhaps in large part to the newer simplicity of application) – now making it the safest and one of the best resellers for the networks of affiliate marketers who earn their revenues from the reselling of other electronic publishers’ stock and digital product lines.

When asked, Google company representatives stated matter-of-factly that the rumors of bankruptcy for the ecommerce giant are simply not true, and that the rumor millings are in fact simply the result of “panics” brought on by the usual hysteria associated with anything large, new or revolutionary – or in this case, all three.

Attempts to contact both Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the former Stanford University students who founded Google in 1998, to request comment were unsuccessful.

Again, Google itself seems to be the biggest supporter of the “new system” as it’s allowing more and more advertisers to promote the new system on its search engine before over 100 million daily searches and surfers.

How to Make PPC Bid Management Profitable?

Online ad campaigns with major search engines are costly and confusing and PPC bidding is worth only when you can afford to spend realistically. PPC bid management begins by identifying the maximum CPC (cost per click) for a given keyword phrase. It changes over a time period and varies from one search engine to another.

If you don’t know the actual value, start with an educated guess. Either it could be based on thumb rule or internal factors such profit margins. For instance, let’s assume you bid on the keyword “shoes” but are unaware of your max CPC.

First Method

One way to estimate CPC is by taking top 5 bids on overture and computing the average. Current bids range from USD 0.310 to USD 0.51. This becomes your max CPC. Another approach is by using profit margins as a base to determine CPC.

Supposedly your profit margin is thirty percent and your average sales price for a pair of shoes is USD 90. This leaves you with a profit margin of USD 27 for every shoe. Let’s assume you have a one percent conversion rate, that is, you expect one sale for every 100 visitors from a PPC ad. If you have an ad of USD 27 spread over 100 visitors, you get 27 cents per click.

Second Method

The other way to approach CPC is by having an ad spend based on revenue. For instance, if you wish to spend fifteen percent of revenue on advertising, then the ad spend works around USD 13.5 for each shoe.

Again, assuming a conversion rate of one percent, it leaves you with 13.5 cents for each click. You can adjust the CPC based on the ad campaign progress and actual conversion rate.

PPC has increasingly become an effective, flexible and fast way to boost online web presence and attract traffic. When combined with dedicated and strategic PPC Bid Management service, PPC takes online marketing to an entirely new level.

Make Money with Adsense

Make money with Adsense

Google has two business-to-business programs. Both programs deal with the buying and selling of search engine traffic. Traffic from a search engine is defined as those visitors who search for keywords while seeking information. The first Google program is Adwords. It auctions keywords to the highest bidders. The higher bidders will receive a greater portion of the keyword-seeking traffic. That traffic is partly driven by Google’s second program, Adsense. Adsense is the topic of this article.

Adsense pays webmasters whenever a visitor to his website clicks on displayed Google ads. Google Adsense works remarkably well for webmasters who observe Google’s fairly stringent Terms of Service. Adsense offers a full slate of tools to help refine a web marketer’s ad campaign. These range from the sophisticated scripting of the keyword matching system, displaying ads in relation to the content on a page, to the keyword management tools on Google’s Adsense and Adwords websites.

To make money with Adsense, a web marketer has a lot of possibilities. The basic idea is to focus and filter website traffic to Google ads in such a way that profit potential is maximized. The “accumulating wealth” concept of buy low and sell high is at the heart of the traffic click system. Garner traffic from as many free or cheap sources as possible, via search engine optimization or other methods, and then filter that traffic to Google Adsense at a higher rate.

Some webmasters purchase very cheap traffic from click brokers, making certain to assess the quality of that traffic beforehand, and then “resell” it at a higher rate when it clicks through Google Adsense ads. Many past webmasters have profited by buying lots of little-known and low volume keywords through Google Adwords. These keywords cost much less than ones that are more in demand. This less expensive traffic is then filtered and sold to Google Adsense at a higher rate.

In dealing with Google, however, both as a search engine and a click market, one should remember that real content is king. Generating legitimate content that draws in interested website visitors is the best way to channel quality traffic to Google ads. To this end, most web marketers make money with Adsense by building content-oriented websites on a variety of different topics. It’s advisable to keep in mind that some keywords are worth more than others. There are many factors that go into determining the value of a keyword. The amount of traffic the keyword will attract is important, and the tendency for the traffic to convert to a sale is equally vital. The amount of money to be made on any such sale is another vital determining factor in keyword value. Buy Car would obviously be worth more than Buy Socks. For an example, mesothelioma is a very expensive keyword. This is due to the profit potential from the class-action lawsuits surrounding the use of asbestos, which is said to cause this disease.

Web marketers may build their own sites. They can also place Google Adsense codes on allowed external websites, such as many article-posting archives. It’s important to always keep the Google Terms of Service in mind. While doing so, there is no end to the number of ways to make money with Adsense
